Hi there. Welcome to my virtual office! OK, it's just a website. But it's full of resources to supplement what we're doing in class. If there are books or links that you have found useful and highly recommend, please email me, and I'll add them. If you're curious, the typeface I've used on these pages is Fell English, named for John Fell, a Bishop of Oxford in the seventeenth-century. And it's available via the Google Font Directory.

On Inspiration

A single typeface provided the inspiration for this layout. Browsing the Internet has its place, but I encourage you to look elsewhere for inspiration. My muses aren't in The Box. Joshua Davis says put red food coloring in your eyes. Or bury yourself in sand at the beach. The point is, and it's a cliché, the computer is just a tool. Don't trust it. And Don't rely on it exclusively for inspiration.

That said, we will be looking at a lot of online resources. Between the individual course pages and the Resources page you'll fiind links to most of the sites I'll mention in class. And I'll post links to other sites that I find compelling throughout the quarter. And then of course there's WalrusBat.

Grading

Inspiration. Vision. Talent. Essential in our trade. But a little fuzzy. Thomas Edison said “vision without execution is hallucination.” One of the main requirements for an outstanding project, and an above average grade, is time. Edison also said “opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” Whether it's painting or ActionScripting, the amount of time and effort you put in will be evident. As a reminder, doing everything required on the syllabus and in the assignment sheets only guarantees you a C. B is above average, and A is reserved for excellence.
